A 4th of July to Remember!

July 15, 2011

Hello Everyone,
I was so lucky to be a part of the 65th Annual Catonsville 4th of July Parade. The streets were aligned with many people of various ages who attend the parade each year. It is always exciting to see familiar faces but on that day I was able to see so many new ones! My niece and husband make great assistants!

Volunteer Efforts-Donating to those in Need

June 15, 2011

Hello Everyone,
I have been working hard to collect 100 dresses to take to storm victims of Tuscaloosa. So far, we have 76 gowns and dresses to donate to women across central Alabama. In April I flew to Alabama and carried 110 lbs. of donated toiletries to storm victims. In July, I will make my second trip to volunteer with the recovery efforts in Tuscaloosa.

The Mrs. America Pageant 2011 Airs on TV!

May 15, 2011

Hello Everyone,
Before the show began on Mother’s Day, my husband and I both posted on Twitter and Facebook to remind our friends to watch the telecast. The night was exciting to say the least! Earlier in the day I had gathered all of the contestant gifts I had received and spread them all over the room. I opened the gifts right before the telecast and they were such great reminders of the friendships I made during nationals.

The Road to Mrs. America 2011

April 18, 2011

Hello Everyone,

After winning the title of Mrs.Maryland America 2001 on February 19, I was overwhelmed with the amount of support that I received from family and friends. It had been a mere thirteen years since I had competed in a pageant. Originally I had set out to give it another try and to do my very best in order feel satisfied about what could possibly be my last pageant experience. What started out as a mission for closure became an experience of opportunities.

All in all, I had quite a bit of work to do to be prepared for what would be the experience of a lifetime. There were only two months left to be ready to go to Mrs.America at the beautiful Greenbrier Resort in Sulpher Springs, WV. On March 30th I packed my car with more clothes and accessories then you could ever imagine. In fact, I was a little embarrassed that my car was so full of items but after all I would be there for a total of two weeks.

Once I arrived at the front door of the hotel, I was pleasantly greeted by the courteous staff. It didn’t take very long before I started running into other women sporting their sashes and it dawned on me that I had finally made it to my dream.

The first day was very relaxing. I had the chance to get to know my roommate a little better while we were both unpacking our many storage bins and luggage. Our room was beautiful! We were blessed with a huge suite that included a couple of televisions and a full living area. Little did we know that we would not have any time for television!

The rest of the two weeks would be filled with meeting the owner of the Greenbrier (James Justice), the founders of the Mrs. America pageant (David and Elaine Marmel) and the hostesses of the show (Florence Henderson and her daughter, Barbara). I never in my life would have thought that I would have been able to have a conversation with Florence Henderson but it happened during one of our breaks! Even though it was very enticing to go out with the other ladies after a full day of rehearsals, I chose to get my beauty sleep. Being rested and ready for each day was very important to me because I wanted to remain focused on the competition. After all, it had been thirteen years and I wanted to make sure I had no regrets. I was inspired by Coach Nick Saban’s speech about “clutter”. This quote was especially motivational to me: “It’s all a matter of focusing on the right things,” Read more: http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/2010/01/03/961923/commentary-welcome-to-nick-sabans.html#ixzz1RKo5P2rm

Once the time came to model my evening gown in the preliminary round, I chose to take the moment for everything it was worth to me. It was time to appreciate the opportunity that I had been given. Everything about that moment in time was beautiful. There is certainly something special about seeing your hard work and dedication paying off to get you to that point. Not to mention being able to share it with those who love you most. The wonderful friends and memories will last a lifetime.
